About Wickford Appliance

In 1977, Arthur Chaput created a small appliance service business under the name of Day N' Nite Appliance. As the small enterprise grew, Tim Chaput, Arthur's son, soon joined the company.  Tim brought not only an honors education, but also an expertise in refrigeration with a degree from New England Tech to the company.

The father-son team continued to build up the business and as their solid reputation for quality service grew, so did the company's offerings. By 1987, with the success of the business still steadily on the rise, and with Arthur now contemplating retirement, Tim Chaput decided to purchase the assets of Day N' Nite Appliance and set out to transform the company into a larger enterprise.

In 1988, just one year after assuming control, Tim Chaput joins into a partnership with Ray Chaput to purchase the building and assets of Wickford Appliance in South County - a business move that would create the foundation of the company's future.

Throughout the early 90's the company operated a small service center out of its Pawtucket location and a retail store in Wickford, but by 1992 more positive changes were forthcoming. Earlier that year, Tim and Ray had made arrangements with the owner to purchase the building of a well-known store called The Lighting Center.  They retained part of its name and all of its goodwill, and in the process positioned their growing company to be a leader in the Southern New England appliance and lighting marketplace.

In fact, by 1997 Wickford Appliance & Lighting Center would indeed grow to become one of the most prominent independent sales and service centers in Rhode Island, Southern Massachusetts, and Eastern Connecticut - but the growth would not end there.

Continuing to grow on its impeccable reputation through the late 90's, Wickford Appliance & Lighting Center entered the new century as the crown jewel of the preferred brands in upscale appliances. After an extensive remodeling in 2005 Wickford Appliance began a unique televised cooking class featuring the full working kitchens of numerous manufacturers.

No one knows what the future will bring, but one thing is for sure, Wickford Appliance & Lighting Center will continue its commitment to bring you the best in appliances and services as it lights its path and the homes of customers in the future.
